Our new favourite is Banjo and Ruby Red by Libby Gleeson, illustrated by Freya Blackwood, Little Hare Publishers. Use “Hairy Maclary’s Bone” to develop maths concepts/language of over,under ,around and through. Play a downloadable board game together from The National Literacy Trust. Better beginnings has an excellent downloadable sheet with rhymes, books and activities linked to Hairy Maclary. Great fun! Have a look at how BarnsleyLibrary did it- gorgeous! Retell the story aloud using children with masks or puppets. Make a story bag/busy bag with some of the characters from the stories.Kids could also use photos of their own dogs and cats to make up similar stories to Hairy Maclary. It’s especially good for developing language after reading the book.
